It will take a minute to recognize Robert Pattinson’s voice in the new trailer for his film Peak time (watch below), A24’s upcoming film in which he plays radio journalist Chris Hansen, the face of the former Dateline NBC series To catch the predator. This has become a signature for the man who brought wild vocal flair to everything Satan all the time to Mickey 17 to Good time.
Here, the British actor seems to handle Hansen’s vocal patterns and tics with an uncanny, off-kilter precision, as those familiar with the notorious true crime host will attest. While a very small glimpse of what the characterization will look like – with a shorter visual introduction – the trailer suggests that more game-changing work from Pattinson is on the way.
Peak time Directed by renowned documentary director Lance Oppenheim (A kind of paradise, rang vere) in his first feature film, and marks Pattinson’s first full feature film production credit. The series takes place in 2006, the year in which the majority of the series’ episodes were broadcast. (To catch the predator It premiered in 2004.) The show, which followed Hansen and his crew working with law enforcement and employing “booby traps” to hunt and arrest child molesters, emerged as something of a troubling cultural phenomenon, drawing millions of viewers to the reliable model Hansen hunting down bad guys on camera.
But 2006 was also the year a goal was achieved To catch the predator Bill Conradt shot and killed himself, just as officers and a film crew entered his home – a horrific tragedy that led to the show’s end. It is not clear what the basis is Peak time will cover the movie, but upon hearing Pattinson’s Hansen say with chilling conviction in the trailer, “I’m Chris Hansen with… Dateline NBC“And you’re about to become a part of TV history,” he points out, but this won’t be the brightest of images.
This would be Pattinson’s second A24 film the following year Dramawhose impatient humanitarian turn received some of the best reviews of his career. (THRThe film review said: “Pattinson gives a natural, engaging performance, convincingly playing a relatively ordinary man…who begins to realize that his comfortable life with the quirky girl of his dreams is not as stable or ordinary as he once thought.”) This film, like… Peak timeconfirms that twilight The alum doesn’t play it safe with his choices, delivering big, complex performances to match the provocative material delivered by his distinguished filmmakers.
However, Pattinson’s year has only just begun, and he continues to mix blockbuster films with edgy auteur projects. He got a major role in Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey As the arrogant Antony, he will play a new adversary to Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides.
