Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and Ranbir Kapoor had a disciplined childhood, despite their famous lineage. Parents Rishi and Neetu Kapoor made sure they understood the value of money with carpools, fixed pocket money, and economy class travel. This approach was aimed at instilling financial wisdom, a lesson that Soni Razdan echoed in similar travel rules for her children.
Riddhima Kapoor Sahni said that she and Ranbir Kapoor did not grow up with child star privileges despite being born into one of the most famous families in Bollywood. Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor’s daughter said their parents gave them a loving but disciplined childhood, with car rides to school, steady pocket money, and budget-friendly foreign trips.
Neetu Kapoor also revealed that Ranbir and Riddhima traveled in economy class when they were children so that they could learn the value of money.
Ranbir Kapoor’s childhood remained simple
Speaking to Soha Ali Khan on her podcast ‘All About Her’, Riddhima said that Rishi and Neetu treat both the children equally and keep their home life normal. “There was no difference between us when we grew up. We grew up in a very loving home. Of course, there was discipline, but it was a very normal upbringing.
We did everything ourselves. “It wasn’t like we belonged to a star family,” she said.Riddhima, who recently entered the entertainment industry with ‘Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives’, spent years away from the camera and focused on her career after marrying Bharat Sahni. She later appeared with Neetu in the film Dadi Ki Shaadi.
Neetu Kapoor on economy class flights
Neetu said that she and Rishi made sure that their children did not take luxury for granted. “They were very normal kids.
They were accompanying the car to school. They didn’t have a driver. They were only given a fixed amount of money to spend. Even when they traveled abroad, they would fly economy class, stay with friends, and share apartments. “My husband was very keen to understand the value of money,” Neto said. She also said that Rishi avoided buying expensive things for Riddhima. “He never let me buy her anything expensive. He used to say that she would never appreciate the things her husband bought her.
“They traveled and lived like any normal children,” she added.
Soni Razdan on family vacations that come on tight budgets
Alia Bhatt had a similar travel rule in childhood. In the book Raising Stars: The Challenges and Joys of Being a Parent in Bollywood, Soni Razdan recalled, “Once, we were flying to Dubai and couldn’t afford three business class tickets. I told my kids, ‘I’m going to fly first class, and you guys are flying economy class.’ They made a face.”She added: “My rationale was that you haven’t earned enough to fly business yet. Once you earn enough to afford a business class ticket, please fly business. Simple as that.”
