She added: “And now I am waiting for the movie and it looks very beautiful, there is no doubt about that.”

A shift from her previous criticism

Deepika’s appreciation comes after months of her expressing strong reservations about repeatedly retelling the saga.

In June 2024, she said: “Honestly, I’m very disappointed in people who keep making Ramayan because I don’t think you should do it.”She has also observed, “People are making a mess. I don’t think people should make Ramayan again and again because every time they make it, they want to bring something new; a new story, a new angle, a new look.”She also criticized Adipurush during the same interaction.

Dipika became a household name in the late 1980s when Ramayan was aired on Doordarshan. Her depiction of Sita is still remembered for its grace and simplicity. Arun Govil played Rama, Arvind Trivedi played Ravana, while Sunil Lahri and Dhara Singh played Lakshman and Hanuman, respectively.
