Tony 2026 paid tribute to chicagoIts 30th anniversary on Sunday night.
Alex Newell kicked things off with a performance of When You’re Good to Mama, after an introduction by Queen Latifah, who celebrated the show’s three-decade run on Broadway. A gentle introduction paid tribute to her Oscar-nominated starring role as Matron “Mama” Morton in the 2002 film.
“And now, ladies and gentlemen, from one mother hen to another, the keeper of the keys, the Countess of the Clink, the mistress of the assassins are arguing; Nanny ‘Mama’ Morton!” Latifah said before welcoming the Tony winner to the stage.
Pink, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Adrian Warren, Julianne Hough, Whitney Levitt and Dylan Mulvaney were among those who also appeared in the star-studded performance.
The long-running musical reached a new high at the box office this year, with support from Levitt and her Dancing with the stars Limited run by partner Mark Ballas on the show. chicago It reached nearly $1.5 million during the week of April 14, as the average ticket price rose to $171, and capacity at the Ambassador Theater increased to 100 percent.
Pink hosted the 78th Annual Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York on Sunday night. The “So What” singer herself opened the awards show with a performance that referenced nearly every musical and play nominated from this season.
Pink also hit the stage again for chicago tribute as she performed “All That Jazz” and commanded the stage. She and Newell certainly gave Tony’s 2026 car the retro dazzle.
