'Qarib Qarib Singlle' co-star Parvathi remembers Irrfan Khan: 'It doesn't make sense that I'm alive and he's not'

Irrfan Khan, one of India’s finest actors, died in 2020 at the age of 53 due to a neuroendocrine tumor following a colon infection at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai. “It doesn’t make sense that I’m alive and he’s not,” his co-star Qarib Qarib Single Parvathi mourned at a Pinkvilla event. His famous films include Salam Bombay!, Life of Pi, and Angrezi Medium. Survived by wife Sutapa, sons of Babylon, Ayan.

Irrfan Khan, considered one of India’s best actors, passed away in 2020 at the age of 53. He breathed his last at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, where he was admitted with a colon infection while also suffering from a neuroendocrine tumor since 2018.

He left behind an impressive body of work, including the romantic comedy Qarib Qarib Singal. Actress Parvathi, who starred alongside him in the film, later spoke about her experience working with him.

Parvathi remembers working with Irrfan Khan

During a meet and greet organized by Pinkvilla, a fan asked Parvathi what it was like to work with Irrfan. In response to the question, she shared her thoughts, saying, “I don’t think we talk enough about death. As a society, I don’t think we do a great job of talking about grief. I don’t think we talk enough about death.”

We have lost someone who experienced life and shared those moments with them, so allow them to feel that sadness. Whenever I am asked about Irfan or Puneet [Rajkumar] They’re even two of my co-stars that we lost and I can’t believe it.

“It doesn’t make sense for them not to be here… I don’t have the words to express it yet.”She added, “Irrfan used to say, ‘Abhi toh sirf shorwat hain (It’s just the beginning).'” While shooting for Qarib Qarib Single, he was very excited about this new chapter in his life. We don’t realize how lucky we are to be breathing, because it doesn’t make sense that I should be alive and he’s not.

I don’t understand the logic of that. He lived every day with such childish curiosity. He was that guy, he was like a bouncing ball. If I’m thinking about him, which I try to avoid, because then we have to think about the fact that he’s not here with us, it’s the fact that he was kind and gentle. He was enthusiastic about life. I cherish that memory very much.

Irrfan Khan’s journey from television to world cinema

Khan began his acting journey on television before making his big screen debut with the Oscar-nominated film “Salaam Bombay!” In 1988.

Over the years, he has proven his versatility by performing in films like ‘Maqbool’, ‘Haider’, ‘Piku’ and ‘Lunch Box’. Apart from Indian cinema, he also gained international fame with prominent roles in international projects such as “Life of Pi”, “The Amazing Spider-Man”, “Inferno” and others.

Irrfan Khan’s illness, the final film and his surviving family

In 2018, Irrfan told the world that he had been diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor, writing in a social media post: “I hope to come back with more stories to tell.” He died in 2020 after a long struggle with illness. The actor was last seen in the comedy-drama ‘Angrezi Medium’, a follow-up to his 2017 blockbuster film ‘Hindi Medium’. He is survived by his wife, Sutapa Sikdar, and his two sons, Babil and Ayaan.
