Trigger Warning: This article contains mention of death.Punjabi singer Inder Kaur, also known as Yashinder Kaur, was found dead in Nilu Canal near Ludhiana, days after she was reported missing.
The 29-year-old artist has been untraceable since May 13.
Her body was recovered on Tuesday morning around 11 am. The police opened a murder investigation and are examining multiple aspects of the case.
The family claims kidnapping and coercion
As reported by Punjab News Live, her relatives alleged that Inder Kaur was kidnapped at gunpoint and pressured into marriage against her will. According to the family, she rejected the offer and was subsequently killed.
Her brother said she left home at around 6:30 p.m. on May 13 to buy household supplies. When she failed to return and could not be contacted, her relatives began searching for her and later called the police.
Defendants residing in Canada are subject to scrutiny
During the investigation, investigators learned that the singer knew a man named Sukhwinder Singh, a native of Moga and currently residing in Canada. Family members claim that he was already married with children, but they continued to insist that Inder Kaur marry him.
They also claimed that he left the country after organizing the crime and accused him of planning the entire incident from abroad. Police are investigating these allegations as part of their wider investigation.
Inder Kaur’s fans mourn the young singer
Inder Kaur has built a strong digital presence with over 124,000 followers on Instagram. The news of her death sparked a wave of sadness among her fans. One follower wrote: “Peace be upon you, I did not follow you, but now I saw the news.”
Another commented: “Heartbreaking.” A third simply wrote: “So sad…”The authorities are examining all available evidence, including allegations of kidnapping and pressure into forced marriage. No final conclusions have been announced, and police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.
