Disney+ announced the record on Thursday, but refused to reveal specific numbers for the number of viewers, and limited itself to that only The perfect crown The premiere of the Korean series became the most watched on the platform globally.
The series – which also airs domestically on MBC in primetime in Korea on Fridays and Saturdays – is set in an alternate reality version of modern South Korea where the country remains a constitutional monarchy. Pop star-turned-actress IU plays Seung Hui-joo, the edgy heiress to a major Korean conglomerate whose public status conflicts with her ambition. Byun Woo-seok plays Grand Prince Ae-an, the second son of the king, whose royal title comes with little else. When mounting pressures push the two into a marriage of convenience, maintaining the strict transactional arrangements proves more difficult than either of them had planned.
The pairing has generated great anticipation. The company has several high-profile Korean projects in the pipeline, including the second season of Shop for killers; Married EmpressStarring Shin Min A, Jo Ji Hoon, and Lee Jong Suk; and Koreansa high-profile remake for FX Americans Starring Lee Byung Hun and Han Ji Min.
New episodes of The perfect crown It is released every Friday and Saturday at 11:20 PM KST. The series continues until May 16.
