The Trump administration released the first batch of long-promised files related to UFO sightings on Friday. The 162 files – consisting of documents, photographs and videos – chronicle government personnel’s reports of anomalous aircraft and were uploaded to the War Department’s website.
The first thing you should know is that there is nothing remarkable about these real-life X-Files that would likely convince skeptics that aliens have visited Earth. But there are several reports that will interest UFO enthusiasts. And with Pentagon promising to release “new material on a rolling basis,” the timing couldn’t be better for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film for Universal. Disclosure day (which drops on June 12).
“The materials archived here are unsolved cases, which means that the government is unable to make a final decision on the nature of the observed phenomena,” the ministry noted.
Here are the five most interesting reports and videos from the data warehouse.
1. Reports from NASA and the Apollo 17 mission to the moon.
The Apollo 17 script includes astronauts discussing mysterious lights. Newly released quotes from the crew include: “There’s a whole bunch of big bulbs on my window over there — just bright. It looks like the Fourth of July outside Ron’s window” and “We had flashes of light almost constantly during the entire flight as we were dark-adapted.” There has been some debate about whether the crew was simply seeing particles or optical illusions. One crew member described “numerous flashing and rotating phenomena” which he assessed as “corresponding to physical objects in space and not a purely optical phenomenon.”

2. 2023 sighting reported by seven federal officers who separately reported seeing UAPs (unidentified anomalous phenomena) across several western states over the course of two days.
Witnesses said they saw “orbs shooting orbs” – orange orbs shooting smaller red orbs. They also described a large, glowing, hovering ball with an object described as a “transparent kite.” “The credibility of the reporters and the potentially anomalous nature of the events themselves — combine to make this report among the most compelling within AARO’s current holdings,” the report notes.
3. The Pentagon released an FBI agent Composite drawing Associated with seeing a UFO.
The drawing shows the actual location of the sighting while the UFO itself is presented based on what was spotted in 2023. The anonymous witness described a “clear elliptical bronze metallic object materializing from a bright light in the sky, 130-195 feet long, and instantly disappearing.”

4. Of all the actual images of the UAP, the following image of this object spotted over Japan is the clearest of the bunch:

5. Video from US Indo-Pacific Command showing clear footage of a celestial body from an infrared sensor in 2024.
This is probably the best video of this first release. It’s a bit disappointing, however, because it’s grainy black-and-white footage of a blurry object in the distance rather than the clear, high-resolution footage that has been repeatedly teased by members of Congress demanding disclosure and government whistleblowers.
This is so cool!

Trump released the following statement regarding the files: “In keeping with my promise to you, the War Department has released the first batch of UFO/UAP files to the public for review and study. In an effort to maximize transparency, I have had the honor of directing my administration to identify and submit government files related to extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena, and unidentified flying objects. While previous administrations have failed to be transparent on this topic, these new documents and videos, people can decide for themselves, ‘What the hell is going on?'” Enjoy and have fun!
This release comes on the heels of former President Barack Obama’s statement to Stephen Colbert earlier this week that the government is not hiding any actual evidence of the existence of aliens or spacecraft.
“Here’s the thing: For those of you who still think we’ve got little green men underground somewhere, one of the things you learn as president is that government is bad at keeping secrets,” Obama said. “The idea of these conspiracy theories — if there were aliens or spaceships or anything under the control of the United States government that we knew about, or saw, or photographed, what have you… I promise you that some guy guarding the facility would have taken a selfie with one of the aliens and sent it to his girlfriend to impress her. There will be leaks.”
