Paramount has set the date back to 1966. The studio has acquired the American rights to the historical crime thriller. By any means It has set a Labor Day weekend release date of September 4, 2026 for the project that stars Mark Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Elegance Bratton is directing the film from a script by Sasha Penn.

The film’s events take place against the backdrop of the events in Mississippi in 1966, and are loosely based on real events. By any means “Follows a volatile partnership between a hardened Mafia hitman and a young black FBI agent as they are forced into an uneasy alliance to track down those responsible for the murders of civil rights leaders – and uncover a conspiracy that tests the limits of justice, loyalty and survival.”

Bratton, known for his maritime dramas InspectionHe said of the film: “This is a story about unlikely alliances forged under impossible circumstances – where justice is not clean, and the truth comes at a cost. I wanted to explore what it means to confront violence not just as an act, but as a system – and what that requires of those caught in its trap.”

Nicole Beharie, David Strathairn, Giancarlo Esposito, Josh Lucas and Ethan Embry round out the cast.

Bratton produces with Chester Algernal Gordon for their Freedom Principle banner, along with Alex Lebovici for Hammerstone Studios; Basil Iwanyk and Erika Lee for Thunder Road Films; Wahlberg and Steven Levinson for the municipality.

WME Independent handled the sale, while north.five.six handled international sales.

The crime drama is directed by David Leitch at Amazon MGM Studios How to rob a bank Also opens September 4th.
