James Lamont and John Foster, a screenwriting duo whose credits include Paddington in Peru And Cartoon Network The Amazing World of GumballI collaborated for the script for Cratersa new AI-powered animation feature, which will be shown to buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Market.
Nick Kliveroff, co-founder of AI production studio Native Alien, is directing and producing Craters In collaboration with Chad Nelson, creative strategist at OpenAI, and Alan Niblo and James Richardson of London-based Vertigo Films.
The film was introduced as the first major commercial family film created with artificial intelligence integrated throughout the entire production line.
According to the official promotion, the film follows “an anxious but brave young woodland creature who teams up with a group of eccentric outcasts — each with their own quirks and hidden strengths — on a high-stakes mission to find her long-lost brother.”
Kliverov said in a statement Craters It aims to capture “the wonder of the 1980s fantasy films I grew up in – the moody, adventurous spirit that… Fools And the emotional and mythical scope of The never-ending story…along with early volumestar wars“.
AGC International has acquired worldwide sales rights and will be showing first-look footage of the filmCraters For buyers in Cannes.
The film’s executive producers are Pascal Breton, Lionel Ozan, Jane Moore, Stuart Ford and Aggie Koh.
The Cannes Film Festival has banned films that use artificial intelligence as a main authoring tool from its main competition, despite allowing the technology to be used in specific artistic processes related to filmmaking. But the Cannes film market takes a more neutral view, as companies and creatives around the world experiment with AI technology to shape or create features.
