Olivia Rodrigo has officially announced her highly anticipated third album, You look very sad for a girl in love.

The 23-year-old pop star broke the news on social media Thursday morning with the album cover that depicts Rodrigo rocking upside down in a hot pink dress. It’s been a thrill for her follow-up to her 2023 album, Courage — which earned her a Grammy nomination for album of the year — for weeks, and she confirmed on Thursday that it would finally be released on June 12. “My third album sounds very sad for a girl in love. It will be released on June 12,” the singer said in her social media post. “I’m so proud of this record and can’t wait for you to hear it.

“I’m so proud of this record and can’t wait for you to hear it,” Rodrigo wrote on Thursday.

In March, a purple mural appeared in Los Angeles with the word “OR” painted on the wall against the color featured on her last two albums. Her official social media accounts for her fan base posted videos with tags like “#OliviaIsComing” and “#OR3.” The wall was then painted a shade of pink, to match the dress on Rodrigo’s album cover, with the word “Love” painted above it, marking her shift in color scheme for the upcoming album.

Rodrigo cleared her Instagram feed, making the album announcement her only post, and changed her profile picture to a doll wearing a pink dress. She posted a story related to the pre-orders by tweeting, “He thought desire came without inherent suffering! He’s crazy!!!” Signed pre-orders for the album available on her site have already sold out in less than an hour.

It is not clear whether a tour or shows will be announced for the new album; Rodrigo is not scheduled to headline any of the major summer festivals at the moment.
