Oliver Tree, the singer, director and record producer famous for his hits “Life Goes On” and “Miss You” with Robin Schultz, has died. He was 32 years old.

The artist was among six people who died when two helicopters collided in Recreo dos Bandeirantes, in the southwestern region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday morning, the Associated Press and CNN Brazil reported.

Born Oliver Tree Nickel on June 29, 1993 in Santa Cruz, California, he rose to fame on Vine in 2016 thanks to his alter ego “Turbo,” who sported a signature cut, oversized 80s clothing, and an eccentric personality. That same year, he released his first hit single, “When I’m Down,” which eventually put him on the map and led to him signing with Atlantic Records in 2017.

Throughout his career, he has employed many different personas and eras of performance, as well as using a combination of trolling and online marketing to promote his music.

Tree has released four studio albums with Atlantic, including Ugly is beautiful (2020), Cowboy tears (2022), Alone in a crowd of people (2023), and his most recent works, I love you madly, I hate you so muchwhich fell in April. He also previously released an independent album, Division of branchesUnder his previous alias “Tree” in 2013.

Among his most prominent songs are “Life Goes On,” “Miss You” with Robin Schulz, “Cash Machine,” “Alien Boy,” “Hurt,” “Jerk,” and others.

In addition to writing and producing his music, he also had a passion for directing, usually directing his own music videos which were known for their theatrical and eccentric style. Some of his most popular music videos are “Life Goes On,” which has over 464 million views on YouTube, and “Miss You,” which has over 382 million views on the video streaming platform.

Aside from entertainment, he also set the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest kick scooter in 2020.

On June 6, Trey performed a concert in São Paulo, Brazil, as part of his world tour in support of his latest album, I love you madly, I hate you so much. He was then scheduled to play a show in Lisbon on July 1.

The Brazilian CNN network reported that the other victims identified in the accident were three passengers, Argentine YouTuber Gaspar Brehm, Lucas Vignali and Lucas Brito Chavez, and pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marcelac. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collision.
