Oliver Tree dies: Ex-girlfriend Melanie Martinez remembers singer as 'a true artist'; Kid Cudi, Bebe Rexha and other stars pay tribute

News of Oliver Tree’s tragic death in a helicopter crash sent shockwaves throughout the music industry. Shortly after news broke of his death at the age of 32, tributes from his friends in the music industry began pouring in on social media.According to news reports, Trey was among the six people who died when two helicopters crashed mid-flight over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was arriving from the Sao Paulo leg of his first world tour last weekend, before starting his European campaign in July.Following news of his tragic death, Melanie Martinez, who previously dated the singer, paid an emotional tribute in a social media post. “It was an absolute wreck today,” she wrote on Instagram.

It’s really hard to understand how someone with whom you shared such a defining and formative time in your life could suddenly go away. He was very dedicated to his art which I greatly admired and respected.

I think everyone who knew him will look back on those moments of laughter and joy that he so easily sparked. His laugh was so contagious and warm. His ability to lead creatively and take action while also maintaining a sense of childlike wonder and awe was so inspiring.

“He had a gentle heart and was a true artist in every way.”

Martinez added: “Rest in peace Oliver. I know you make angels laugh. I’ll be here wondering what creative project you’re planning in heaven. All my love.”Among those mourning was pop star Bebe Rexha, who expressed her shock at Oliver’s death and reflected on their personal and professional relationship. She tweeted: “I’m in shock. I was in the middle of recording my CD in NYC when I found the news about Oliver Tree.

I can’t believe it. We made a record together to be in Dirty Blonde. He was very smart. Passionate. talented. Kind. I’m very sad. May God have mercy on him.”

Kid Cudi also expressed his shock over Trey’s death. He wrote in a statement: “Damn, man. I spoke to Oliver a few weeks ago. This is heartbreaking. He is a truly amazing and beautiful human being. This shit is so bad. I am sending all my prayers and love to the families dealing with the losses.”

“Oliver, we love you forever.”

Meanwhile, Grammy Award-winning artist T-Pain also paid tribute to Trey with a heartfelt tribute. He wrote: “We will never forget this lesson from Oliver or the time we spent on @NBRadioPodcast. Thanks for sharing your art with us and for always being different in the best way possible. See you on the brighter side.”

Whitney Cummings also wrote an emotional note remembering the singer. Expressing her shock over his loss, she wrote: “Oliver Tree is one of the most talented people on the face of the earth and that usually comes with ego and all kinds of stupid bullshit, but Oliver is pure love and the best version of what an artist and person can and should be. There is no silver lining. We have lost a giant.”Andy Milonakis also took to social media to post, “RIP Oliver Tree. I don’t know how to process this, I’m glad I spent so much time with him last month but this shit sucks. Life is fragile and unfair.”
