Off campus Steven Cullen stars in a new Verizon ad.
The brand released a one-minute clip titled “Simplicity is Sexy” on Tuesday morning, marking Kalyn’s first major merchandising deal since the release of the popular college romance series. “It was a little nerve-wracking at first, but once I got into the swing of things, it became a lot of fun,” Kalin says. “Doing a commercial is very different from doing what I do normally, so I wasn’t very familiar with that world,” he says. “Now, I’m glad I was able to do it with Verizon. It’s just different.”
The black and white spot highlights some of Calvin Klein’s famous ads, with the actor mentioning a specific Aaron Taylor-Johnson ad that served as his inspiration. Verizon also brought on director Bardia Zeynali, who ran Calvin Klein’s Deal with It campaign, to bring the vision to life.
In the newly released ad, which aims to highlight the company’s newly launched simplicity plan, the blonde Kalyn tells the camera in a voiceover: “It’s you. It’s just you. You’re the one.” The sultry music of INXS’s song “Never Tear Us Apart” is the soundtrack to Kalin’s speech about being done with noise and games, as he dances and throws his white tank top towards the camera.
Kalyn, who watched a clip of the video before this conversation, couldn’t get over how “amazing” it was. the Off campus The actor said the director, who captured that moment on film, played a song of Kalin’s choice — Led Zeppelin’s “Hey Hey What Can I Do” — and let him go. “You know when you listen to your song in the privacy of your own home?” He says.
“You can let loose and say to yourself, ‘Oh my God, I really hope no one sees me doing that in public.’ That’s what I was feeling,” Kalyn jokes. “There was a peak moment where I forgot everyone was there, and I was in the zone and just focused.”
“That moment, when I was dancing in my leather pants, was probably my favorite part,” he adds.
His family and friends have enjoyed seeing the actor in this new light. “I showed it to my fiancée Victoria, and she said, ‘Go home now,’” he says, laughing. “I loved it. I thought it was great.”
Verizon has turned to these celebrity sites in recent months. Earlier this year, Hot competition Connor Story starred in a short film for the company directed by Nia DaCosta. “We set out to blend nostalgia with the current zeitgeist, and partnering with Steven and director Bardia Zeinali brought this vision to life,” company marketing director Leslie Berland said in a statement.
Callen had his breakout role last month in the hit Prime Video series Off campus. The 28-year-old Canadian actor plays Dean De Laurentiis in the series. He is set to lead the second season alongside his co-star and on-screen darling Mika Abdullah, which is currently filming in Vancouver.
“I’ve been very busy. Very long days on set. I’m there almost every day,” he says of the progress of filming the second season. But make no mistake, he doesn’t complain and can’t stop saying how happy he is to be there.
He says the filming schedule, from a supporting character in the first season to a lead character in the second season, was adjusted a bit. “After the second week, you have a minor accident for a minute and just need a little quick resuscitation. I was talking to Louisa [Levy] Turn it around. “She’s not only a great model but just a supportive person,” says Kalin. “I would talk to her and we’d pick me back up, if I was a little crashed or feeling a little tired.”
There is just over a month left until the release Off campusKalin is truly grateful for the opportunities the show has given him. “It’s a huge honor to be able to do these kind of photo shoots and work on commercials and advertisements,” he says. He jokes that he’s been watching other Verizon ads with Storrie, Mike Meyers, and Kevin Hart pop up on his feeds these days and can’t fathom that he’s doing it, too.
As for the rest of Kaline’s year? “Success. Success. Success,” is clear. “Hopefully more and more opportunities to work and make really great films. I would like to move on to another project maybe a month after finishing[[Off campus Season 2]but we will see what he has in store for us.”
