'No better than biryani at Rs 370': Netizens slam Samay Raina for 'kandha dega tabhi woh...' comment: 'Vasoolunga toh sahi'

Comedian Samay Raina is back with the second season of ‘India’s Got Latent’, with the first episode featuring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari as celebrity guests. While the series’ return has sparked excitement, an old clip from one of its 2024 episodes has resurfaced online, sparking new criticism. The viral video has once again sparked conversations about misogyny, consent and the kind of humor that has been normalized, especially after the recent biryani controversy that took over social media earlier this month. In the resurfaced clip, a woman attending the show with her boyfriend suddenly got up and left midway through. Curious, Samay asks what happened. The man replies that she had to go home because her father had a minor heart attack.

Surprised by her boyfriend’s calm reaction, Samay wonders why he didn’t accompany her to check on the situation. He then joked: “Abhi jak rota na jak, bhai kanda dega taphi woh hed digi (Go and cry for her).

“Give her your shoulder, she’ll give you your head,” which sparked laughter from the audience. The clip has now gone viral, with many social media users criticizing the remark. One X user wrote: “Kandha dega tabhi toh head degi” – Samay Raina to a man in the audience when his girlfriend left crying because her father had a minor heart attack.

No better than “370 rupai diye hain biryani ke liye vasoolunga toh sahi” Yes comedy is not the biggest problem in our country, but boy is it casual, locker room language has become mainstream and is also contributing to crimes and violence against women. Men get away with this type of language/crimes because other men participate and applaud when women are talked about this way.

So don’t deal with me as your Jian.”Another user commented: “Merit is not measured by what you have given…either

It’s a dinner bill or a shoulder to cry on, and someone’s body doesn’t win you over. Nowadays, people use comedy as a sink for corrupt ideas…sigh.”A third wrote: “Samai lovers are misogynists. It no longer matters whether they are men or women. They are all misogynists. I hope they face the misogyny they make fun of. I don’t feel sorry for you.”Another post read: “I feel pathetic for defending this man when the whole drama happened.

He doesn’t deserve a platform at all, let alone one you have to pay for to watch this crap. He could have easily criticized his behavior but he turned it into a joke for a few laughs. For those who don’t know, the controversy over the INR 370 biryani erupted after a clip from comedian Praneet More’s show went viral. During the show, 23-year-old Himanshu Jangra claimed that since he spent INR 370 on chicken biryani during a date, he deserves a ‘return’ on that investment. The remark received widespread backlash, following which Himanshu apologized and deactivated his social media accounts.Praneet More also issued a public apology, clarifying that the public statement did not represent his personal views. He said: “The comments made by one of the attendees do not express my point of view.”
