Nick Jonas has spoken of his disappointment when his band’s 3D concert film failed to match the box office success of his ex-girlfriend’s film, which was released the same year.On a recent episode of Hey Jonas, the Jonas Brothers’ podcast, John Lloyd Taylor, the band’s former lead guitarist, discussed a “defining moment” in his friendship with Nick. Taylor recalls that Nick was clearly depressed about something, and when asked to explain, Nick explained what had made him so disappointed.

“The 3D movie wasn’t good,” Nick revealed, referring to Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience, which was released in February 2009. “The 3D movie wasn’t good, even though I think it made $25 million. It wasn’t very good.”

Taylor noted that the disappointment was compounded by the fact that they “put it side by side with another film released in the same year”, calling it “the joy thief”. The harsh comparison relates to Miley Cyrus’ “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” released in April 2009, which grossed more than $150 million at the box office.

“We were comparing it to Miley’s movie, and it was like Miley’s movie was bigger. And if someone was better than her, then we weren’t the best. And that’s a disaster for the way we were dealing at the time,” Nick explained, reflecting on their competitive mentality at the time. According to Entertainment Weekly, Cyrus and Nick were dating from mid-2006 until late 2007, long before their films competed at the box office.
How Nick Jonas dealt with disappointment
Instead of dwelling on the loss, Nick found an unconventional outlet to express his frustration.
Taylor remembers visiting the house where Nick was staying and discovering that he “had a drum set in the laundry room.” The two spent three and a half hours playing what Taylor described as “loud rock ‘n’ roll”.

“It was great,” Nick interrupted, and Taylor concluded, “We dug deep, worked hard, and played through the pain. That’s how it was.”

According to the outlet, “Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience” featured footage from Nick, Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas’ 2008 Burnin’ Up concert tour, as well as behind-the-scenes material from when the brothers toured North America.
