Netflix on Monday unveiled an exciting addition to its already expanding slate of Korean content: a rom-com feature Messy as ever afterStarring Kim Min Ha and Noh Sang Hyun.
The film is now in production in Seoul, where the project reunites the two actors following their joint appearance on Apple TV+ Pachinkothis time putting them at the center of a contemporary relationship comedy that follows a couple through the ups and downs of a romantic but rocky decade together.
The story revolves around So Hyun (Kim) and Hyun Tae (Noh), two college sweethearts whose long-term romance fluctuates between devotion and anger as the years accumulate. Rather than delving into the early euphoria of love, the narrative leans into the following more complex terrain:Messy as ever after “(Working title) explores what it’s really like to stay together after the honeymoon phase is long over — depicting the messy mix of loyalty, discomfort, desire, and doubt that comes with really knowing someone,” Netflix’s official synopsis says.
Kim plays a perfectionist museum curator whose professional composure falters when jealousy and emotional uncertainty intervene, while Noh portrays an installation artist deeply committed to his creative identity and resistant to compromise.
The film marks the feature directorial debut of emerging director Seo Jung-min. The producers of Bombaram Film – the Seoul-based company behind the youthful romance Love is not tangled And a socially resonant hit Kim Ji-young, born 1982 – They support the project, which Netflix is developing as part of its ongoing efforts to raise new voices in Korean cinema.
The project adds to Netflix’s ambitious Korean premium slate for 2026. As previously announced, the streamer is rolling out a slate of 33 titles spanning scripted series, feature films and unscripted formats, ranging from star-driven romantic comedies such as Boyfriend on request (led by Blackpink’s Jisoo) to large-scale projects such as supernatural dramas Wonders Starring Park Eun Bin and Cha Eun Woo, as well as the latest and highly anticipated feature film from director Lee Chang Dong Potential love. The roster also relies heavily on returning franchises – with new seasons of hit songs such as Singles are hell, Culinary class wars and Satan’s plan – Along with big name scripted projects like Tantarathe pairing of Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo.
