The National Hispanic Media Alliance has named its list of honorees for its upcoming Impact Awards.
This annual event will be held on April 24 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel studio With a Behind the Lens Impact Award, with a number of Latino voices involved in creating the Emmy Award-winning success; Recipients will include Frida Pérez (co-creator, writer and co-executive producer), Kayla Monterosso Mejía (actress), Lorena Pérez Batista (music editor and composer) and Antonio Sanchez (composer).
Demon hunters in kpop Co-creators Dania Jimenez and Hannah McMichan will also receive the Storytelling Impact Award, and Belissa Escobedo will be honored with the Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Series Impact Award for her role in the NBC series. Happy place Writer-director Beth de Araujo will be honored with a Visionary Impact Award for her film Josephine (Which caused a stir at Sundance.)
Comedians Chris Estrada and Frankie Quinones will host the evening, which is an inclusive celebration of individuals creating a more inclusive society.
“Latinos have been an integral part of Hollywood since its earliest days, building it, shaping it, fueling its creativity, and preserving its culture,” Brenda Victoria Castillo, president and CEO of NHMC, said in a statement. “This year’s honorees are the latest examples of our voices making an impact and leading their work to awards and cultural recognition. We are honored to recognize this incredibly talented group.”
More honorees, presenters and guests will be announced as the event approaches. The Impact Awards ceremony is part of NHMC’s overall mission to highlight accurate, fair and positive representation in media, as well as advocate for increasing the number of Latino writers on major networks, improving diversity on major television and film sets, and educating media and industry executives about the differences in Latino culture.
