'Mortal Kombat II' Box Office Collection Day 1: Karl Urban starrer film makes India debut with Rs 1.65 crore; It beats 'Daadi Ki Shaadi' and 'Krishnavataram'.

Hollywood action film ‘Mortal Kombat II’ has had a good start at the Indian box office. The film, starring Karl Urban of “The Boys” fame in the lead role, not only opened to good collections, but also came out on top, earning the highest box office collection for a new release.The film, which opened in theaters on Friday, sharing the box office with films like “Daadi Ki Shaadi” and “Krishnavataram”, has started its box office run stronger than expected, collecting a total of Rs 1.65 crore on the first day.As per Sacnilk reports, the film has registered a gross collection of Rs 1.65 crore in India. The film debuted widely in 4,543 shows in India. This roughly translates to an estimated net collection of Rs 1.40 lakh crore on day one.In comparison, Neetu Kapoor’s family drama ‘Daadi Ki Shaadi’ lagged behind, grossing a net total of Rs 60 lakh on its first day from 1,789 shows. India’s GDP is 72 lakh.Meanwhile, the devotional epic ‘Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart’ received a modest response at the Indian box office. The film, directed by Hardik Gajjar, which created a buzz for its visually rich depiction of Lord Krishna’s journey, managed to earn an estimated Rs 50 lakh on its opening day.

With the opening day numbers setting the tone, all eyes will now be on the weekend trends to see if ‘Mortal Kombat II’ can maintain the momentum in India and emerge as the highest-grossing film this weekend. The film also surpassed the biopic ‘Michael’ which grossed Rs 1.50 crore on the 15th day.“Mortal Kombat” also beat “The Devil Wears Prada 2” which collected an estimated Rs 1.20 crore on its second Friday.
