'Michael Jackson: The Verdict' Trailer: Docuseries Revisits Explosive Trial Amid 'Michael's' Box Office Success - Watch

Two decades after Michael Jackson was acquitted in one of the most closely watched celebrity trials in history, a new docuseries “Michael Jackson: The Verdict” is set to revisit the explosive courtroom battle that captivated the world.

Michael Jackson: Verdict trailer

The trailer for the three-part series premiered online Thursday, giving viewers an inside look at the 2005 trial that ended with the singer’s acquittal. The trailer paints a rather bleak picture as it takes the audience through the accounts of jurors, eyewitnesses, defendants, defenders and journalists who were present during the proceedings.

Director Nick Green in a documentary

The series, directed by Nick Green, aims to revisit the case from the perspective of the prosecution and defence, offering what the filmmakers describe as a “forensic view” of the trial.

Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, the director said: “It’s been 20 years since Michael Jackson’s trial in which he was found not guilty. However, to this day, the controversy still rages.”The statement concluded: “No cameras were allowed into the court, and so the public’s view of the facts at the time was filtered by commentators and presented in fragments. It is time to take a forensic look at the trial as a whole. Anyone interested in the story of Michael Jackson should feel that this docuseries gives them a window into what was a largely closed event and a chance to feel close to what happened.”

Document to focus on Child molestation allegations

According to the report, the series includes new interviews with jurors and individuals directly involved in the case, along with media figures who witnessed the courtroom drama firsthand. The director explained the reason behind this, saying: “The goal was to take the audience inside the events and talk only to the eyewitnesses who played a role in those events.”In 2003, Jackson, the King of Pop and one of the world’s biggest stars, was charged with multiple counts of child molestation.

These allegations sparked an intense media sensation and a trial that caught the attention of the entire world. His acquittal of all charges in 2005 only intensified the public fascination surrounding the singer, a fascination that continued long after his death in 2009.

Box office collection “Michael”.

The release of the documentary series comes amid the box office success of the biopic “Michael”, starring Jafar Jackson in the title role. The film grossed US$710 million worldwide, making it the second highest-grossing film of 2026 and the fourth-highest-grossing biopic of all time. While the aforementioned film skipped the dark chapters in the singer’s controversy-filled life, this documentary highlights the cultural impact of the trial.
