British broadcaster and artist Melanie Sykes revealed her new look on social media, after a severe struggle with alopecia. The 55-year-old professional shared a powerful Instagram post showing off her bald head, after revealing that two-thirds of her hair had fallen out due to the painful condition.Here’s a closer look at Melanie Sykes’ bold new look after being diagnosed with alopecia.

Melanie Sykes shared an inspiring selfie on Instagram on June 28, wearing a white tank top and a big smile. “Loss + gain = life,” the “Shop Well For Less” star captioned the post, adding The Dualers’ song “Got That Smile.” While she previously spoke about severe hair loss, she shared a post with no hair at all.Previously, Sykes shared that she had been trying different wigs as her hair loss became severe over time.

“As much as I love using my head veil, I can’t wait to get some hair,” she wrote in a post dated May 13, 2026, before adding: “My hair has been coming out really fast the last few weeks, and even at this point (I’ve been losing my hair for about a year and a half) it can feel threatened.”

About Melanie Sykes’ diagnosis

Melanie Sykes first spoke about her diagnosis last year, detailing her pain and recovery treatments. “I have an autoimmune disease, I’m losing my hair, I have crazy inflammation everywhere, and I’m working on healing,” she said. “For the past three months, I’ve been doing a meditation teacher training course.”

Speaking about hair loss, the presenter said: “I’m actually two-thirds bald.

Every time I say I am bald, I laugh, and I don’t know why… Thank God I can laugh.”

What is alopecia?

According to the Cleveland Clinic, alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease that causes patchy hair loss anywhere on the body. It most commonly affects the hair on the skin covering the head (scalp). Medications and treatments can help hair regrow, but severe cases may not respond to treatment.
