Matt Damon wanted to work with Shekhar Kapoor, and reveals why he couldn't do The Four Feathers

Matt Damon revealed that he wanted to work with Shekhar Kapoor on The Four Feathers (2002) but missed out, likely due to his commitment to Jason Bourne. Speaking at The Odyssey event in Mumbai, he described it as a “20-year-old debt” that he still carries. He plays Odysseus in The Odyssey, alongside Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland and others.

Decades later, Hollywood star Matt Damon still looks back on a career opportunity he wishes he had succeeded in: collaborating with acclaimed director Shekhar Kapoor on the 2002 film The Four Feathers. Speaking at The Odyssey event in Mumbai on Saturday, July 11, Damon revealed that Kapoor had long been a director he admired and wanted to work with.

When asked to name an Indian film director he would like to work with, Matt pointed to Shekhar Kapoor. “The director everyone wanted to collaborate with was Shekhar Kapoor,” he said, adding that he was “really upset” when he couldn’t be a part of “The Four Feathers.” He noted that his previous commitment to the Jason Bourne franchise was likely what kept him from taking on the role. “I think I signed up for a Jason Bourne movie,” he said.

Despite missing out on this project, Damon made it clear that his desire to collaborate with Kapoor has not faded. He added: “I think it’s always been on my list, so I’d like to give it another try. This is like a 20-year-old debt that I’ve been carrying around in my body. That’s it.”

Matt Damon’s role in The Odyssey

Based on Homer’s epic poem, “The Odyssey” traces the long, treacherous journey of Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca. Matt Damon takes on the role of Odysseus, while Anne Hathaway plays Penelope. The film’s star-studded cast also includes Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron.
