Marvel Studios has reportedly dropped plans to use Spider-Man’s mutation in the movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day, departing from one of the darkest and most disturbing ideas in Spider-Man lore.
A new report says that producers decided not to go ahead with the creature design due to concerns about how younger viewers and family audiences would respond. The reported casting suggests a film that will focus on the emotional fallout Peter Parker suffered after Spider-Man: No Way Home, rather than turning him into a full-blown spider-monster.
“Spider-Man: A Brand New Day” report details.
According to The Cosmic Circus, the topic came up during a recent Q&A session on Discord hosted by Alex Perez, who answered fan questions about several Marvel projects, including “VisionQuest,” “Wolverine,” and “X-Men.”
When asked if “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” would feature a full Man-Spider transformation or just show Peter Parker becoming more aggressive, Perez said: “I had heard about the Man-Spider concept, but some producers expressed concern about how family audiences would react to an 8-legged monster appearing in the movie.
“Last I heard, they don’t want to do it,” he added.
What does Spider-Man mean for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”?
For fans who aren’t familiar with the concept, Man-Spider is a mutant version of Spider-Man that turns Peter Parker into a monstrous arachnid creature.
The model appeared in Marvel Comics and in the 1990s animated television series, with Jim Cummings voicing the character. Because of this history, the idea of Peter turning into a multi-limbed monster has remained one of the most controversial rumored plot points associated with “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

The reported deletion also indicates that the new film will focus more on the emotional story behind “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
This film ended with Doctor Strange’s spell erasing Peter Parker from the memories of everyone close to him. The official synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day says the hero now works in a world where Peter Parker no longer exists, while Spider-Man still protects New York City.
