Trigger Warning: This article contains references to suicide.Martin Short is speaking candidly about the sudden death of his daughter, Catherine Short, months after she tragically died by suicide in February at the age of 42.In an emotional interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Short spoke for the first time about how losing Catherine was a “nightmare for the family.” He also revealed his daughter’s long struggle with mental illness.

Linking mental health to cancer, he said, “But understanding [is] Like my wife, mental health and cancer are illnesses, and sometimes with illnesses they are fatal. “And my daughter struggled for a long time with severe mental health issues, borderline personality disorder, and other things, and she did the best she could until she couldn’t.”

The death of Catherine Short’s father

According to reports, her body was found in her Hollywood Hills home by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics. According to the Los Angeles coroner, Katherine died from a gunshot wound to the head. She worked with a non-profit organization focused on reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness.She was the eldest of three children adopted by Short and his late wife, Nancy Dolman, who died of ovarian cancer in 2010.

Martin Short releases a new documentary

On the work front, Martin, who stars in Only Murders In The Building, is set to appear in the upcoming documentary Marty, Life Is Short, which premieres on May 12.
