The winners of this year’s Lexus Uptown Honors Hollywood awards have been announced.
Mario Van Peebles will receive the Icon of Achievement Award, in recognition of his nearly 60-year career in Hollywood, since his first screen appearance on the daytime soap. One lives to live In 1968 he made his directorial debut with the 1991 classic New Jack City and the 2003 biographical drama Badssss! Which he co-wrote, produced, directed and stars in, starring as his father, legendary independent director Melvin Van Peebles.
Taye Diggs will receive the Impact and Excellence Award in honor of his decades-long acting career in film, television and theater, from How Stella got her groove back, Best man, chicago and wood, to rent, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Private practice and All of America.
Battle after battle Star Wood Harris will receive the Fearless Trailblazer Award, in recognition of his performances in television and film, from HBO. The wire Remember the Titansand Doctrine films, to his latest role in Mara Brock Akil’s hit Netflix series Forever.
Finally, Omar Benson Miller will receive an Amplified Impact Award, also in recognition of his on-screen performance 8 miles to the Miracle in Sant’Anna And HBO Ballersas well as his recent role as Cornbread in Ryan Coogler’s record-breaking Oscar-winning horror film Sinners.
“For more than 16 years, Uptown has been committed to elevating or celebrating Black excellence in Hollywood because our stories and images deserve to be seen, recognized and celebrated.” Uptown The magazine said in a press release. “This Oscar Week event was created to address the persistent gap in recognition by honoring Black creators and executives — both in front of and behind the camera — whose work shapes the industry and culture at large. This year, we proudly highlight Black men whose vision, influence, and leadership are building a lasting legacy for generations to come.”
The Lexus Uptown Hollywood Tribute Gala will be held on March 11 in Los Angeles. Actor, comedian, writer and producer Chris Spencer and media personality Ty Beauchamp will serve as hosts.
