Marc Debevoise, former president of CBS Interactive and a top executive at Paramount, has found his next role.
The CEO has been named the new chairman of OverDrive, a company backed by private equity giant KKR that explains its mission is to connect libraries, universities and schools with “digital content that transforms learning and expands access to knowledge.”
To help the company write its next chapter, OverDrive has hired DeBevoise, who will also serve on the company’s board of directors. The company also operates e-book and audiobook app Libby, educational app Sora, and video streaming app Kanopy.
“Mark is a transformational leader who has scaled multi-format platforms serving millions of users,” said Steve Potash, founder and CEO of OverDrive. “His experience building direct-to-consumer and enterprise platforms, coupled with a deep understanding of content ecosystems and rights holder relationships, is exactly what this moment requires: continued product innovation, stronger content partnerships, and scaled global execution.”
DeBevoise most recently served as CEO of Brightcove. During his tenure at CBS and Paramount, he “oversaw the company’s digital portfolio and helped launch and expand direct-to-consumer streaming services, including Paramount+ (originally CBS All Access), CBSN, and CBS Sports HQ,” the company explained. “DeBevoise joins OverDrive at a moment of strong momentum for the platform. In 2025, readers borrowed more than 860 million digital titles worldwide across Libby and Sora, and libraries and universities streamed more than 1.1 billion minutes on Kanopy – up from 765 million sign-ups and 951 million minutes in 2024.”
OverDrive’s global distribution network provides access to more than 5 million titles across more than 100 languages and more than 40,000 videos, with rights available in more than 150 countries.
“OverDrive sits at a unique nexus of content, technology and overall impact,” DeBevoise said. “Libraries and schools shape lives, and our work is about making that impact greater — expanding content selection, improving the economics of the institutions we serve, and delivering experiences that meet users where they are. I’m excited to build on our strong publisher and studio relationships, helping them grow their businesses as we grow and take our mission to more communities around the world.”
DeBevoise also currently serves on the board of The Door, a youth development non-profit organization in New York City, as an assistant professor of digital strategy at New York University.
