Malayalam cinema icon Mammootty has added another proud achievement to his legendary journey after receiving an honorary doctorate from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. The prestigious honor was presented by Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlikar during the grand convocation ceremony of the university.
Mammootty has been honored for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema over several decades. The actor attended the ceremony in a simple and elegant traditional outfit, and received warm applause from the students, guests and faculty members present at the ceremony.

Mammootty was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Arts (D.Litt) for his remarkable contribution to cinema and culture. The university also honored renowned Nadaswaram artist Thiruviza Jayashankar and vascular surgeon N Radhakrishnan during the same event.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Mammootty shared a heartfelt message on social media. “I feel proud to receive an honorary doctorate degree from Mahatma Gandhi University today, presented by the Hon’ble Governor of Kerala.
“I express my gratitude to each and every one of you who have stood by my side throughout this unforgettable journey,” he wrote, and his emotional note quickly spread among fans online.
The third PhD marks another milestone in Mammootty’s career
This is the third honorary doctorate that Mammootty has received in his career.
Earlier, he received similar awards from Kerala University and Calicut University. The veteran actor has been one of the biggest names in Hindi cinema for over four decades and has worked in over 400 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. He is also a three-time National Award winner and has received numerous State Awards and Filmfare honors throughout his long film journey.
