Madalsa Sharma, who rose to fame playing the role of Kavya in the hit TV show Anupamaa, recently spoke about a disturbing experience from the early days of her film career. The actress, who is married to Mahaakshay Chakraborty, son of veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, recalled how a “famous film director” once made an inappropriate request during a meeting when she was just 19 years old.
“I’m an actor, I’m not here to prove it like that.”
Speaking on Hauterrfly, Madalsa revealed that the director called her for a meeting and asked if she felt comfortable wearing a bikini. Although she did not initially consider it a major issue, she wanted to clarify whether it was relevant to the scenario.“I was about 19 at the time. He told me he was looking for a girl who was comfortable in a bikini. I thought it was no big deal, but I wanted to understand the story — whether it was justified or something.”However, things took an uncomfortable turn when the director asked her to wear a bikini in front of him to “check her body language.”Recalling her response, Madalsa said, “I told him that I am an actress by profession. If the role requires a bikini, saree or lehenga, then I am comfortable doing it in front of the camera because that is my job. But wearing it in front of you is not part of my job.”She added that she made her position clear and told the director that he could choose her based on her talent, otherwise she would walk away.
“If you trust my talent, you can choose me. If not, I know where the door is,” she said.

Madalsa also revealed that a few days later, she learned that the director had cast someone else for the same project, and that they were dating. Madalsa made her acting debut with the Telugu film Fitting Master in 2009 and went on to appear in films like Shourya and Samrat & Co. And Ram Leela. However, it was her role in Anupamaa, starring Rupali Ganguly, that brought her widespread recognition.
