Bleecker Street’s Crosswalk and LD Entertainment have acquired the live stage adaptation of the Tony Award-winning and West End musical Hadestown.
The movie is titled Hadestown: The Musicalis scheduled to be released theatrically in North America on July 24, 2026. The musical, which has a score and book by Anaïs Mitchell, won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Musical, along with seven other Tony Awards, and is now in its seventh year on Broadway and its third year on the West End.
The live-action shoot was filmed in London and features five original members of the Broadway cast: Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Andre De Shields as Hermes, Amber Gray as Persephone, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, and Patrick Page as Hades. Brett Sullivan of Stream and Sound directed. The UK theatrical release date will be announced at a later date.
The musical, directed by Rachel Chavkin, brings together the mythical love stories of Orpheus and Eurydice and Hades and Persephone, as Orpheus must descend into Hades’ underworld to rescue Eurydice after hard times have befallen the couple. The show began as a concept album for Mitchell, who blended American folk music and New Orleans-style jazz to write the score.
In addition to the West End and Broadway productions, the musical undertook a three-year North American tour, as well as productions in South Korea, Sydney, Melbourne and Amsterdam.
Mara Isaac, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold and Tom Kirdahy serve as producers on the production and film.

The film also stars Bella Brown, Madeleine Charlamagne, and Allie Daniel as the Fates, Lauren Azania, Thiago Dhondt-Bamberger, Richa Higgs, Waylon Jacobs, and Christopher Short as the workers, and Lucinda Buckley, Francesca Daniela Baker, Winnie Herbert, and Miriam Nyarko as the Swingers.
