Mean Girls star Lindsay Lohan recalls her turbulent teenage years. In a recent interview, the 39-year-old spoke about her difficult years growing up under intense media scrutiny. I thought about how it all led to a problematic adulthood with legal problems.

Lohan, who moved to Dubai with her husband, said she “wonders why no one protected her” more.

In the March 2026 issue of Vogue Arabia, Lindsay Lohan opened up about why the early days were so turbulent, asking, “Why didn’t someone go get me out of there and protect me more?” She said. “You don’t know how to do it yourself when you’re a teenager.”

It was a “double-edged sword” for Lindsay Lohan

During her rise, Lindsay spent nights at Hollywood clubs, which later led to arrests and legal action.

Now, the mother of one feels it has been “very stressful and all-consuming”. She continued, “I should have listened to my mom and dad and moved back to New York. But I was young and I wanted to be in L.A. and I didn’t know. So, yeah, while a lot of it was fun, it was hard when I was little. It was a double-edged sword.”

Lindsay on moving away from Hollywood

The “Freaky Friday” star also explained why she moved away and eventually found herself living away from the glare of Hollywood.

“I don’t enjoy work anymore,” she said. “I couldn’t find roles that I liked. It’s not the life I wanted to live, you know? It’s not a real life. It pushed me so far that I moved to the other side of the world. And I’m so glad I followed my intuition.”

Lindsay Lohan’s balanced life in Dubai

Lohan, who moved to Dubai in 2014, feels this is the right thing to do, as she met her husband Badr Shammas, with whom she has a son in 2023. She explained: “We are good together because he is very calm and I am like fireworks. We have a great balance.”
