Lil Nas Since his infamous arrest last year, he has spoken openly about his bipolar diagnosis, undergone rehab and therapy and confirmed he has new music in the works.

“I was in rehab for a few months, and ever since then I’ve been back home, whether it’s in Atlanta with my family, or in LA with myself and my friends or whatever and trying to ground myself and get out of my head,” the rapper said in a video filmed outside, smiling at the camera throughout the entire recording. “I now have a therapist and psychiatrist who has been really helpful.”

He has spoken openly about his bipolar disorder diagnosis, saying: “I feel like I’ve known it for the last few years but… [didn’t] I want to admit it because I didn’t want to take medication and have people think of me differently.

“I’m actually black and gay, oh my God,” he said with a laugh. “Come on, gay, black, bipolar? I’m living my life in a very difficult situation.

He continued: “On a serious note, I am in much better shape, and I feel better.” “I’m creating freely, and there’s less fear in my heart. I’m smelling the roses. I’ve been making music for seven years now. Speaking of music, I wanted to let you know that there’s new music on the way. I haven’t quite achieved it yet but I’m excited to do so.”

Rolling Stone reported in April that the rapper’s condition was linked to a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, and that if he continued his treatment, the case would be dismissed.

Lil Nas X has been relatively under the radar since his arrest as he has been focusing on his mental health recovery. In his first video after the arrest last August, he described the experience as “terrifying” but added: “Your girl is going to be okay, she is going to be okay.”

“I’m excited to go on this journey with you guys, this next chapter,” Lil Nas X said in his video on Wednesday. “We’ve been through a lot together. Thanks guys for pushing it. I love you and all I want to do is keep trying and make you proud of myself. So, let’s go dream boy, let’s go.”
