Lifetime is getting into the mini-drama game with a series tied into one of its upcoming original films.

The offer is called Tides of temptationand counts Taye Diggs among its executive producers. The mini-drama will be a digital extension/global expansion of the cable network’s film Terry McMillan Presents: Heaven is with youStarring and exec produced by Diggs.

The mini-drama and the movie — one of three coming to Lifetime’s “Love of a Lifetime” movie franchise — were part of Lifetime’s announcements at A+E Global Media’s presentation on Wednesday.

Diggs is executive producing Tides of temptation With Autumn Friedrichi, Shelby Stone and Jake Helgren from The Ninth House (who is also behind… Heaven is with you). The mini-drama, shot on vertical video and in very short episodes, will follow a young woman (Mia Wilkerson) who falls in love with an athlete (Q Steinlein, aka SwagBoyQ) on the Caribbean island of Nevis. Troy Brookins (also a co-producer) and David John Craig also star. Gary and Edmund Entin direct, from a screenplay by Nanya Miyata and a story by Ejay Jamison.

“When we first heard Autumn and Tai’s pitch for a mini-drama tied to a movie, it seemed like a smart, strategic way to enter the vertical space,” said Rob Sharenow, head of programming at A+E Global Media. “It allows us to expand the world of the film while meeting audiences where they are, without compromising the quality of the story or production value.”

Diggs said, “We approached this as a fully realized dramatic project, not just short-form content. It’s an opportunity to bring emotional depth and visual ambition to a format designed for today’s audiences.”

Lifetime also announced deals with Queen Latifah and Taraji P. Henson to produce original films for the channel. The other two films are “Love of a Lifetime”. Love, againStarring Valerie Bertinelli, Henry Czerny and Eric McCormack When I said I doexecutive produced by Clint and Lisa Hartman Black.
