It’s hard to imagine the 2011 movie Bridesmaids Without the famous food poisoning scene.
During a recent video interview with Vanity galleryKristen Wiig reunited with her former co-star Rose Byrne and gave a look at the Oscar-nominated film, directed by Paul Feig.
At one point, Saturday Night Live The alum admitted that the infamous scene was not part of the film’s original script. “This was a sequence that came later in the writing process that we kind of embraced and were like, OK, we’re going to write our version of this kind of thing,” Wiig explained. “We kind of made it ourselves. We didn’t want to see any vomit.” [but] You can find a way to do your version of it.”
She added, “It was so fun to do that scene and see… everyone’s version of not feeling comfortable and trying to hide it. It was fun to watch the ladies do their thing.”
The scene in question saw the group of friends suffer sudden food poisoning while trying on expensive wedding dresses after dining at a cheap restaurant. Chaos ensues, resulting in severe involuntary vomiting and diarrhea and the complete destruction of the wedding shop.
In 2017, Feige revealed to Respected That there was another version of the food poisoning sequence that fans didn’t see, as they decided it was too gross to make the final cut.
“There’s a deleted scene where, after Becca throws up on Rita’s head, she has to throw up again, so she runs out of the bathroom and down the hall, thinking there’s another bathroom at the end of the hall,” the director recalls. “It turns out the door opens into Whitney’s office; she opens the door and projectile vomits across this beautiful white desk, and all over Whitney and her husband’s wedding photo.”
“We filmed a lot of outrageous things and we know we can adjust the balance later,” he added. “The minute we shot that scene, we all said, ‘I think that’s a bridge too far.’ So we scrapped it.”
In addition to Whig and Byrne, Bridesmaids It also starred Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, Ellie Kemper, and Wendi McLendon-Covey.
