Kiara Advani recently opened up about the emotional story behind her much-talked-about Met Gala 2025 debut, which also saw her baby bump appear for the first time on a global platform.
From revealing how her pregnancy became the inspiration behind the outfit to sharing how nervous she initially felt about attending the global fashion event, the actress spoke candidly about her experience.During the conversation, Raj Chamani brought up reports claiming that Kiara’s Met Gala generated nearly $15 million in organic online media value.In response to the reports, the actress admitted that she was surprised by the amount of attention her appearance received.
Kiara also revealed that celebrity fashion designer Anaita Shroff Adajania and designer Gaurav Gupta were always her first choices for the event.“The day I told Anita that I was going to the Met Gala and asked her if she would design for me, she immediately said, ‘Let’s get Gaurav to do something.’ We never thought about it again,” the actress said.
“I wanted the outfit to relate to my pregnancy.”
Chiara also revealed that she specifically wanted her pregnancy to be reflected in the design of the outfit.
“My only brief to Gaurav was that even though I understood there was a theme, could we somehow connect it to my pregnancy? Because how often do you go to the Met Gala while pregnant?” she said.The actress explained that she attended the event during the final phase (just before her seventh month) in which she was allowed to travel medically.“I was wondering if I should go because it was a long flight and I was pregnant.
But my best friend told me that if my child found out later that I had a chance to attend the Met Gala and didn’t go, the child would fight with me over it.

Concept inspired by an umbilical cord and a metal shield
Speaking about the outfit that has now gone viral, Kiara revealed that Gaurav Gupta conceptualized the design around the shape of the umbilical cord and a heart-shaped structure.“He had the idea of creating the whole concept of an umbilical cord and turning it into a heart,” she explained.The actress also shared that she personally loves the designer’s signature metal armor and asked him to incorporate this aesthetic into the final look.“It felt very personal to me apart from being on this special platform,” she added.
“Everyone at the Met Gala is equal.”
Chiara also described the Met Gala as one of the most organized and eye-opening experiences of her life.“Once you walk in, everyone is equal,” she said. “No entourage, no managers, no PR teams — everyone is simply there as guests.”The actress also described it as her first major international networking experience where she interacted with people from different industries and walks of life.She concluded by saying that the entire journey was emotional and “full circle,” adding that she and Gaurav Gupta documented the process because it means a lot to them.
