Katy Perry, who went viral last year for her AI photos on the Met Gala red carpet, appears to be leaning towards a tech look on the 2026 Met Gala carpet.
The 41-year-old singer wore a Stella McCartney design, wearing a satin gown with a train, cut from dead Italian satin. The fabric was “woven from forest-friendly viscose and reused from surplus Italian tailoring fabric,” according to the release.
However, the centerpiece of Perry’s look was a chrome-plated mask. It’s unclear if the mask is also from the designer. It appears to be inspired by a dueling mask. It sparked a lot of conversations on social media as soon as the pictures surfaced. On the carpet, the singer opened the mask to take pictures.
Last year, Perry went viral during fashion’s biggest night despite not being there. In the midst of the red carpet, photos of the singer spread on social media, wearing her own dress. It looked real to a lot of netizens, including Perry’s mother, apparently — at least according to the photos Perry herself posted. “
“I couldn’t make it to the Met, I had to work,” Perry posted in a caption on her Instagram along with fake red carpet photos and a shot of her mother commenting on what she believes is her daughter’s real red carpet look. The pop singer wrote to her mother in the text: “LOL mom, you got AI too, watch out.”
