Perry speaks from experience when she talks about how we are always told about the bullies around us; However, we never learned how to face the worst one of them all, which is you.The singer shifts the focus from the people and forces around you that may be “bullying” you, and instead brings the conversation back to you. “People talk about bullying, but you can be your own bully in some ways,” she stated in the quote.
She points out that we are often asked to take a stand when someone talks to us or targets us, whether that is as children in school or as adults in our daily lives. However, we often fail to take into account the fact that we ourselves have the ability to become our own critics. Often, we can focus too much on our deepest insecurities, which can manifest in the form of negative self-talk and doubting every decision we make.
“You can be the person who stands in the way of your success,” she adds in the following quote, referring to the concept of self-sabotage.This is never a conscious decision. However, our fears and assumptions about our skills and the world around us can lead to them becoming an obstacle to success. This could be anything from delaying a decision because you feel afraid about the outcome, or not taking action on something because of fear of what will happen, even when you know you are right. In the end, it all boils down to what we think of ourselves and how much self-worth we think we have. Often times, fears of the unknown, coupled with an inability to believe in your own skill set, serve as one of the biggest obstacles in our lives and can be described as the bullies we most need to stand up to in order to achieve success.Katy Perry and her mission in the music industry are proof that despite all the obstacles that the people around you, as well as your mind, have in front of you, you can still persevere and achieve what you want.
Basically, it’s all about changing your perspective and understanding that you are a capable person.
