Los Angeles-based basketball team, the Los Angeles Waves to some extent Ready for next season in the first trailer for Season 2 of the Kate Hudson-fronted Netflix comedy Running point.
“No longer is Isla Gordon (Hudson) the surprise pick to captain the Los Angeles Waves, she’s the one everyone’s watching,” the season synopsis read. Hudson’s Isla is intent on taking the pro team all the way in the trailer.
“This year, I plan to win it all because the LA Waves are run by a very smart and innovative leader,” she told her assembled brothers (Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, and Fabrizio Guido) as she slumped as she tried to sit up in her chair. Isla’s failure to reach her chair is just the beginning of the chaos that’s at its heart throughout the nearly two-minute trailer, including the return of her brother and the biggest professional hurdler, played by Justin Theroux.
“With the series finally rebounding from last year’s scandal, Isla is determined to prove that she’s not just keeping the seat warm for her brother Cam (Theroux). What she doesn’t know is that Cam is quietly maneuvering behind the scenes to regain his position, turning every mistake into ammunition,” the season synopsis explains. Hudson, Tarver, MacArthur, Guido, and Theroux are joined by Brenda Song, Chet Hanks, Toby Sandmann, and Uche Agada to complete the main cast for this season.
The synopsis continues, “As she tries to balance the pressure of running a franchise with time for her personal life, every decision on and off the field counts. To weather family power plays and board scrutiny, she’ll have to tear up last season’s game plan and come up with an entirely new playbook if she wants to finish on top.”
Running point It also added a slew of star power to this recurring season and guest actors. Ray Romano, Max Greenfield, Jay Ellis, Roberto Sanchez, John Glaser, Scott Evans, Rob Heupel, Marisa Reyes, Blake Anderson, Ken Marino, Tommy Dewey, Richa Moorjani, Aliya Turner and Jake Bicking are the recurring guest cast for this season. Ike Barinholtz, Octavia Spencer, Lisa Rinna, Nicole Richie and Scott Speedman are also scheduled to appear.
Executive produced by Mindy Kaling, Barinholtz and David Stassen. Running point It is produced by Kaling’s Kaling International in association with Warner Bros. Television, where the multi-hyphenates are under an overall deal. Stassen serves as showrunner, while Hudson, Howard Klein, Jenie Buss and Linda Rambis also executive produce.
