Actress and politician Kangana Ranaut came out in force in support of actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after the latter faced online criticism over her recent appearance at the Cannes Film Festival.Taking to her Instagram Stories on Sunday, Kangana slammed trolls targeting Aishwarya’s appearance and weight, while emphasizing that fashion is a personal form of expression and that women do not need to meet public expectations.
“A woman owes nothing to anyone.”
While sharing a picture of Aishwarya at Cannes, Kangana wrote, “Fashion and style is self-expression, it is a person’s interpretation of life and attitude. No woman owes anything to anyone. Ash looks gorgeous!!”
The Queen actress also challenged critics to do a better job instead of ripping someone apart. “Those who want to see it another way, why don’t you show what you have? It’s not here to please you, it’s glorious,” she wrote.

Kangana also pointed out ageist undertones in the criticism surrounding Aishwarya’s red carpet appearances. “If you’re not used to seeing older women on red carpets, get used to them now,” she added.The controversy surrounding Cannes seems to have intensified recently after social media users compared her appearance to that of Alia Bhatt, who made headlines for her rounds at the festival this year. While some users praised Alia’s fashion choices, others defended Aishwarya, pointing out that she has represented India at Cannes for more than two decades.

This year marked Aishwarya’s 24th appearance at the prestigious film festival. For her first appearance, the Devdas star wore a custom blue gown by designer Amit Agarwal, accessorized with diamond jewelry and a dramatic veil.She later appeared in a pastel pink draped ensemble featuring floral embellishments and flowing cape sleeves, before wrapping up her Cannes appearance in an elegant white bodysuit with a wrapped feather scarf.Meanwhile, Kangana is gearing up for the release of her next drama Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata. Directed by Manoj Tapadia, the film revolves around the courage shown by hospital staff during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and is scheduled to release on June 12.
