June Squibb is now the oldest Tony nominee in history.
On Tuesday morning, the 2026 Tony Awards nominations were revealed, and Squibb received her first nomination — for Best Actress in a Featured Role in a Play. Marjorie Prime – He made history at the age of 96 as the oldest candidate. Lois Smith held the record at 89 after being nominated (and winning) in 2020 for her role Inheritance.

(Smith played Marjorie in the original off-Broadway production and the 2017 film adaptation opposite Jon Hamm.)
Squibb was nominated alongside Laurie Metcalfe (Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller), Aya Cash (giant), Betsy Eidem (release(and Marylouise Burke)Balustrades).
The actress made her Broadway debut in 1959 in the original production of gypsy, Play Electra. Her theater credits include Happy Time, Waitress, Sacrilege and Juri’s stories. Off Broadway, Squibb has built a celebrated screen career through the roles he has played Get to know Joe Black, Schmidt, Thelma, Shameless And more. Last year, she starred in Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut, Eleanor the Great.
Squibb also received a commendation award for the 2013 film Alexander Payne nebraskaincluding Oscar, SAG, Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and Independent Spirit Award nominations.
Marjorie Prime It officially opened on Broadway on December 8, 2025, at the Helen Hayes Theater, and is scheduled to run through February 15.
