The much-anticipated encounter between global superstar Jr NTR and wizard of words Trivikram Srinivas sparked a turbulent wave of controversy online soon after his successful announcement. While fans were happy to see the duo teaming up again after Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava, a mysterious teaser poster showing a weapon resembling Lord Murugan’s Vel (spear) sent the speculation into overdrive.
The excitement quickly turned into a heated cultural debate across social media after producer S. Naga Vamsi shared the poster with a caption claiming that the protagonist was “born in the North… molded in the Centre… worshiped in the South”. This slogan has drawn severe criticism from Tamil devotees and netizens, who strongly object to the Nordic attribution of a deeply revered ancient deity as Tamil Kadavul (Tamil God).
A product post on social media sparks online discussion
Soon after the announcement, a social media post by producer S. Naga Vamsi sparked widespread controversy. Sharing the film’s poster on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: “Born in the North… Formed in the Middle… Worshiped in the South… Now a global epic.” Since many viewers had already associated the poster with Lord Murugan, the phrase “Born in the North” quickly became the focus of discussion. This raised questions among netizens, who thought this might change the story of the god.
This message went viral on social media, attracting criticism and support from various sections of the internet.
Social media was divided over the interpretation
The comments section was quickly filled with diverse opinions. Many devotees of Lord Murugan and many Tamil users have expressed their opposition, pointing out that Murugan has been associated with Tamil heritage in Tamil literary works and cultural traditions for a long time. Some users also questioned why there are no Tamil elements in the poster if the film is based on the deity.
Others felt that filmmakers should not create confusion about historical or religious beliefs in order to promote cinema.
At the same time, another section of users came out in support of the makers, pointing out that Murugan is worshiped across India with names like Kartikeya and Subrahmanya, hence, a broader interpretation is possible.
There is no official confirmation of the film’s story yet
There has been a lot of talk about it, but the makers have not officially confirmed that the film is based on the story of Lord Murugan or any particular mythological story. These speculations are based solely on the teaser poster and a social media post from one of the producers. Consequently, a number of other followers asked to wait for the official announcement before concluding on the subject of the film. Even then, the controversy has made the Jr NTR-Trivikram project one of the most talked about upcoming films on social media and every new update is expected to garner a lot of attention.
