Although it’s bittersweet for Stephen Colbert as he nears the end Late ShowJon Stewart literally lifted the host’s spirits on Tuesday.
While Stewart visited the CBS late-night talk show for his final guest appearance, he brought Colbert a gift and previewed the host’s new life for once. Late Show It ends on May 21.
“Everyone was coming up with something to kind of finish themselves off. They sang you a song. They wrote you a poem. They did all that. I’m not talented, so I’m not going to do any of that.” Daily show quipped the host.
“You deserve something tangible, something you’ve earned. You deserve a gift that matches the sacrifice and work that you’ve put into this show, that can show you the life you can live and the life I’m living now because I’m not in show business,” Stewart said as crew members set up two chairs. “Oh man. You’re going to enjoy watching.” Matlock In this damned one.”
However, the surprise did not stop there.
“The thing about these chairs is that when you get comfortable in them, you start thinking to yourself, ‘Am I going to have to expend energy to get out of them?’” Stewart said as they reclined in the chairs. However, there was no need to fear, because he had a solution.
“Steven, get ready for the fucking trip of your life.” Daily show The host jeered, as the duo pressed a button on the chairs that began to raise them. “Press the up button. Press the up button. Press it. Press it.”
But the moment was still missing something, with Stewart admitting that his “tribute is not complete” without a special performance.
He said: “Stephen, this honor does not represent the joy you have brought me as a friend and the joy you have brought to this country as one of its pioneering artists.” “No, what this moment needs is something much more.”
That’s when Andra Day walked out on stage, leaving Colbert pleasantly surprised. She sang her hit song “Rise Up,” which was perfect for the moment as the couple climbed into their chairs together holding hands.
Colbert and Stewart have been close friends for nearly 30 years since Colbert joined Daily show In 1997. And then, when Colbert became the host Late Show In 2015, Stewart made frequent guest appearances, even performing surprise sketches over the years.
Steven Spielberg also appeared in The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Tuesday. The final episode of the show airs on Thursday.
