Jim Carrey’s on-screen appearance never fails to impress, but his off-screen behavior has been questionable on many occasions. While filming the 1999 Andy Kaufman biopic “Man on the Moon,” Carrey took the character so seriously that he didn’t step out of it the entire time. He himself admitted that he had become the character. He reportedly refused to take directions from director Miloš Forman, and endlessly provoked the rest of the cast with his behavior. While Jim Carrey called it an acting method, “The Hobbit” actor Martin Freeman described it as “self-aggrandizement, selfishness and narcissism.” Years ago, on Off Menu, Freeman criticized Jim Carrey for his behavior and said, “I’m a very perverted Catholic, but if you believe in transubstantiation, then somewhere along the line you go, ‘You’ve become the character.’ No you haven’t, you’re not supposed to become the damn character because you’re supposed to be more open to things than what’s going on in real life because at some point somebody’s going to say ‘cut’ and there’s no point ‘What does cut mean because I’m Napoleon?’” Shut up.
