Ted Laso has made his way to the FIFA World Cup.
Jason Sudeikis brought his positive football coach personality to the biggest event in the sport on Sunday, thanks to his first-ever appearance on the FIFA World Cup Final halftime show, where Ted Lasso The character offered some words of encouragement to co-headliner Justin Bieber.
“I think we need some heart, someone with some soul, someone who can bring love,” Sudeikis told Brendan Hunt, who also played Coach Byrd. Bieber then walked out alongside the cast carrying his acoustic guitar. “Okay young man, it’s your big chance. Now listen to me. Go out there, don’t get nervous. No one’s watching. Make us proud.”
Bieber then took to the field to perform Second swag “It’s All Hallelujah” follows, where you step out on your own in a quieter moment in what was otherwise a more stately affair.
Lasso’s appearance was one of many surprises in the jam-packed 11-minute mix. Madonna, in the centre Confessions II era, began the show with a pre-recorded segment in which she rode a dune buggy driven by Brazilian soccer players Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. The puppets played “Seven Nation Army” with an orchestra conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. K-pop stars BTS, fresh off their Paris stadium show the night before, came out to perform their 2020 global hit “Dynamite.” Coldplay and the Muppets joined PS22 Choir, a children’s choir from Staten Island.
However, the highlight of the show came from Shakira and Burna Boy, who gave a particularly energetic rendition of “Dai Dai,” the official song of the tournament.
Lasso’s appearance comes just a few weeks before the Apple TV series returns for Season 4 on August 5.
