Janhvi Kapoor criticized the overzealous behavior of the paparazzi and said that she recently met them privately to discuss the matter. I confronted them head-on about the inappropriate ways in which actresses are sometimes portrayed.
She acknowledged that clicking is inherent in the profession, and stressed that zooming in on body parts or taking unauthorized angles crosses the line and causes discomfort. She pointed out that even when going out in the chosen outfit, this does not indicate approval for such scrutiny.

Speaking to Raj Chamani, Janhvi said, “I actually had a conversation with the photographers a couple of days ago. I met them privately and was talking to them about how they sometimes photograph women.
And I said ye humari me bora hi hai. Humin achha nahi lagta hai. It is an invasive process and we feel it is not consensual. Even if we dress and go out a certain way. We do not expect a camera ki koi daalke ek area pe zoom karega.
But it reflects worse on you than on us. You are all handing over a woman’s body against her will. How do you respect yourself? That for the sake of money, for the sake of views, you all enlarge a body part? “They seemed to be very receptive and aware.”

The actress stressed that consent is crucial in all areas. “I think it’s important at every stage to ask yourself: What have you agreed to?” For example, I have written a song called ‘Bheegi saree’ where I wear a wet saree and dance beautifully sexually. The idea of it was – I wouldn’t say arousing – but it was a sensual song.” She explained that it was a deliberate and agreed-upon choice. However, she is strongly against any sexualization of sex without her consent.
“But that’s very different from sexualizing someone especially without their consent. I’m not okay with all forms of it, and it bothers me,” Janhvi said.“I have the freedom to wear what I want to wear when I go out. But there are angles, there are ways in which that is captured without my knowledge or consent and distributed. And they put some music on, some in slow motion and some in zoom. That’s not my consent.”
“Even on film sets, if the COO puts a camera somewhere that doesn’t suit me, I have to be able to say ‘ye nahi chalega’ without sounding unprofessional,” she said.
