Jack White returns to the desert.
The rock star has been added as a surprise act for Coachella this weekend, as the music festival announced White’s set in a post revealing performance times for the first weekend.
White isn’t the first veteran star to be added to the Coachella lineup to make a splash in the past few years. Last year, both Weezer and Ed Sheeran were on the bill to play the Mojave Stage at 3pm for the first and second weekend respectively, which is the same stage and time slot that White will be playing this year. Arcade Fire was added at the last minute in 2022.
White is a Coachella veteran, with his band The White Stripes playing the festival in 2003, while headlining as a solo artist in 2015 as well.
White’s set comes a week after he released two singles – “GOD and the Broken Ribs” and “Derecho Demonico” – on Friday, one day before he was set to appear as a musical guest on the show. Saturday Night Live While Jack Black was the host. As it took on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on monday.
Given the new music and the sudden onslaught of high-profile performances, fans are hoping this is the first sign of a new album on the way, though as of now it’s not clear what’s on the horizon. White’s last album was a surprise release no name, which was one of White’s most popular albums in years and received a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album. The White Stripes were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.
Outside of White, this year’s Coachella lineup is led by stars Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber, and Karol G, with other notable performances from Young Thug, Devo, Addison Rae, Sombr, David Byrne and many more. Modern garage rock heroes The Strokes will also play on Saturday, and their set will appear that night on the main stage.
