More than two decades after ‘Kushi’ turned him into one of Tamil cinema’s most loved romantic entertainers, director SJ Suryah has once again sparked talks about a potential sequel. During the film’s re-release event, the director was asked if ‘Kushi 2’ could become a reality.
Although he did not confirm any plans, his answer has since spread among fans, with many of them wondering if the beloved love story will return to the big screen in a new form.
SJ Suryah shares his honest thoughts on ‘Kushi 2’
Responding to questions about making ‘Kushi 2’ with Vijay’s son Sanjay and daughter Jyothika, SJ Suryah gave a thoughtful answer. “Some miracles cannot be created,” he said, according to Akhbar 18. “They must happen on their own. If God plans them, everything will happen.”
He also remembered how Khushi got together in the first place. “When I told the story to Vijay, he didn’t react much. I thought he didn’t like it and asked me if I should tell another story. But he simply said, ‘No, that’s good.’
Let’s do this. “I was surprised that he expressed his approval so casually.”
The director recalls the journey behind the success of ‘Kushi’.
SJ Suryah also spoke about what made ‘Kushi’ special. “The basic idea of ‘Kushi’ and the way the story was told was different.
Deva’s music played a huge role in the success of the film. The tune “Kattipudi Kattipudi” is inspired by the song “Senthamizh Then Mozhiyal”. “If you sing that song faster, you’ll notice the similarity,” he explained. His comments provided fans with a nostalgic look back at the making of the blockbuster, which remains one of the biggest milestones in Vijay and Jyothika’s career.
