The Jab We Met director shared his thoughts on the burqa and purdah, and said that he disagrees with women saying they are comfortable with it.A viral video of him from this interview with Unfiltered by Samdish shows him saying: “I don’t like it when someone says, ‘I’m comfortable in a burqa.’”
I’m comfortable in Barda. It’s a decadent society, if you feel this way, it’s okay.” He added: “It means you have become a victim in your mind, I don’t know how.”
In response, Samdech said: “Sometimes, I don’t even understand this privilege, because we’re talking to different groups of society. Society will continue like this, one group talks to another group, and in the end it’s just communities interacting with each other at some point.”
So, if there is a community in it, let’s say we all come from different tribes. One of the tribes says, I found out that my women will live in purdah, and I will live like this and we all agree.
So who am I to stop them? Home Unko tokunga kya? “I’m not the one who will stop others.”To which Imtiaz replied, “Nai tokne wali baat nai hai. But people around me, my thinking is not that I am stopping someone or that I am going to someone’s house and speaking. But there should be tolerance and moderation. Look, my last thoughts are where have the moderates gone? Nowadays, everyone is extremist. Dialogue has become difficult. I am not your enemy. I will still enjoy your day.”Main Vaapas Aunga starring Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari,
