The finale of Harlan Coben’s latest adaptation, “I’ll Find You,” ends with an unexpected but well-deserved romantic moment between two of its central characters. At the New York City premiere, star Brett Lauer spoke about the importance of the ending and what it represents for her character, Rachel Mills, and her on-screen partner, David Burroughs, played by Sam Worthington. The series follows David as he works alongside Rachel, a dedicated journalist, to locate his young son Matthew, who was wrongly convicted of his murder years earlier. The investigation takes a dramatic turn when evidence suggests the boy may actually still be alive. The finale brings this journey to an emotionally resonant and quietly hopeful conclusion.

Britt Lauer talks about the final romantic moment between Rachel Mills and David Burroughs

Speaking to PEOPLE at the premiere, Lauer reflected on the final scene in which her character and Worthington’s David hold hands.

Rather than being a grand romantic gesture, this moment is simple and meaningful, reflecting the emotional journey both characters have been through.“I think it’s a beautiful, peaceful moment, and it’s really been earned by what they’ve been through together,” Lauer told the publication. She went on to describe the broader context of the ending, painting a picture of a family finding stability after profound trauma.

<p>“The whole family is together, and Matthew is holding his little sister, and I think you get the feeling that this family is going to move forward step by step,” Lauer said. But the happiness of this family reunion comes in the wake of a great tragedy, as the series reveals </p>

The long road to recovery for the characters

Lauer acknowledged the psychological toll the events will have on the reunited family, emphasizing the strength they will draw from facing recovery together. “They may need a lot of therapy, but they will do it together,” the 40-year-old actress said. “I think that moment is a nice, quiet gesture.”Its conclusion is the show’s finale: a quiet nod toward connection and commitment between two people shared in extraordinary circumstances.

Brett Lauer was drawn to the role and the story of Harlan Coben

It’s no surprise that Lauer would return to the screen in the project, as her previous accomplishments in Severance are impressive. She explained that her enthusiasm to join the cast was partly rooted in her admiration for creator Harlan Coben and his distinctive style of storytelling.

<p>“I was really excited. There’s like science fiction, there’s westerns, and then there’s the Harlan Coben type, and it was really exciting to be a part of it,” Lauer said of the author. </p>
<p>“It’s a very active role. Rachel is a down-to-earth journalist. She has a fire in her belly, and she’s really committed to integrity.”<span data-pos=Lauer went on to explain what attracted her to the character herself, emphasizing Rachel’s moral clarity and her role in the narrative’s emotional ecosystem. “I really liked her perspective,” she said. “She has a strong moral compass, and she’s just part of this really tight-knit family.

“She loves her sister, and she truly believed in David’s humanity from the beginning.”

The open-ended nature of Rachel Mills and David Burroughs’ future

The series ends with some questions left unanswered about how David and Rachel’s relationship will develop in the future. But Lauer said she sees this ambiguity as a feature of the story, not a detriment. Speaking to the platform’s official website, she explained why she appreciated the show’s choice to end in a moment of quiet contemplation rather than providing a final conclusion.

A quiet ending hints at a hopeful future<br />” msid=”131954931″ width title=”The poignant hand-holding moment at the end suggests a deeper connection between Rachel and David after everything they’ve endured together. <p>“I like the show to end there, in that quiet, contemplative moment rather than coming up with an elegant solution,” Lauer said. “Both Rachel and David have gone through tremendous loss and come out the other side with a deeper understanding of who they are and what truly matters. They showed up fully — for Matthew, for their family, and for each other — during the most difficult chapter of their lives. This is a very extraordinary foundation for everything that comes after.”</p>
<p> “I think they are facing it with their eyes open.”<span data-pos=The series is now streaming on Netflix, allowing audiences to see the full story of David and Rachel’s journey from investigation to reconciliation.
