Aamir Khan is known for his meticulous approach to filmmaking, but recent revelations have shown just how deep his perfectionism runs and how ingrained it is in his relationship with his cousin and long-time creative collaborator Mansoor Khan. In a candid conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, the actor revealed that he writes a secret letter to Mansoor before every flight he takes, asking him to step in and protect the integrity of any film in production in case something happens to him.
He even asked his ex-wife Kiran Rao to ensure that Mansoor is consulted regarding any pending decisions related to the film in the event of his death.
Aamir Khan’s secret before the trip
Aamir Khan’s pre-trip routine is somewhat more extraordinary. In his own words: “When the shooting is over, and we are in the final post-production stage, I would always write a note to Mansoor. I always feel very nervous about what if my plane crashes or I die? I don’t want the film to go wrong. So, I ask the director to take Mansoor’s advice.
I ask Mansour to take care of it. I do this every time before I get on the plane.”

Khan may have said this as a joke, but the sentiment behind this ritual is so sincere that the idea that a film into which he invested his creative energy and reputation could go sour in his absence is a real concern. The person he completely trusts to prevent this from happening is Mansoor Khan.

The revelation doesn’t stop at pre-flight notes. Aamir has extended the same level of trust to the arrangements he made with his ex-wife Kiran Rao.
“He is someone whose instincts I completely trust. This is what I told Kiran (Rao, ex-wife) many times – if something happens to me, make sure it is managed by Mansoor,” Aamir Khan said.
Mansoor Khan’s reaction
For his part, Mansoor Khan only recently learned of the full extent of this arrangement – and his response was every bit as frank as Aamir’s revelation.Mansour said: “I learned about this recently, and I am under a lot of pressure.”
