Cleo Barnard I see buildings falling like lightning It won the People’s Choice Award at the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar at Cannes.
The kitchen sink drama follows five working-class friends – Patrick, Shiv, Ryan, Ollie and Connor – who come together in a Birmingham apartment tower and are now in their 30s and find themselves on increasingly divergent – and, for most of them, increasingly constricted – paths to the future.
The People’s Choice Award is supported by the Chantal Akerman Foundation, which was established in honor of the late French director Chantal Akerman.Jane Dillman, 23, Department of Commerce), Ordinary Directors’ Weekly. It comes with a cash grant of €7,500 ($8,700) to the director of the winning film.

The second Directors’ Week Award, the Coup de Cœur des Auteurs, from the French rights collecting society SACD, went to ShanaIt is the first solo film by French director Leila Pinel.
Excerpted from her short film, Shana The film stars Eva Howlett as the titular character: a volatile small-time drug dealer with a toxic boyfriend about to get out of prison. Noémie Levovsky, Ines Gharib, Anaïs Mona, Bettina De Van, Genevieve Krief and Sikoba Doucouré participate in the tournament. It is produced by Ecce Films and CG Cinema – the latter also behind the Cannes competition title MinotaurWritten by Andrei Zvyagintsev. Losange Films is handling international sales.
